IDMI has been operationalisedto augment Infrastructure in Private
Aided/Unaided Minority Schools/Institutions in order to enhance quality of
education to minority children. The salient features of IDMI scheme are:-
1 The scheme would facilitate
education of minorities by augmenting and strengthening school infrastructure
in Minority Institutions in order to expand facilities for formal education to
children of minority communities.
2 The scheme will cover the
entire country but, preference will be given to minority institutions (private
aided/unaided schools) located in districts, blocks and towns having a minority
population above 20%,
3. The scheme will inter alia
encourage educational facilities for girls, children with special needs and
those who are most deprived educationally amongst minorities.
4 .The scheme will fund
infrastructure development of private aided/unaided minority institutions to
the extent of 75% and subject to a maximum of Rs. 50 lakhs per institution for
strengthening of educational infrastructure and physical facilities in the
existing school including (i) additional classrooms, (ii) science / computer
lab rooms, (iii) library rooms, (iv) toilets, (v) drinking water facilities and
(vi) hostel
buildings for children especially for girls.
